FATHER'S DAY 2011 / 548

Jason Payne/Postmedia News Service
Journalists have described the disgrace in downtown Vancouver following Game Seven of the Stanley Cup. They are unanimously at a loss to explain why a segment of the large group of hockey fans broke down steel fences, broke commercial windows, overturned and burned vehicles, taunted and fought with police, posed for photos in the midst of the mayhem and disregarded law and responsibility. But city officials and law enforcement must understand and explain it in order to avert it in the future, since this is the second time that such humiliation has smeared the city’s history. The last time being the Seventh Game in 1994. Immediate explanations have been that criminals and anarchists came intentionally to use the occasion to break the law and to create a war zone.

But what kind of people are these? What has created the kind of person who can parade such disregard for what is right and good? Religious people will certainly have an explanation. Others do too.

In an interview for Time magazine in 2005, J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, identified the origin of evil in the role of fathers in family life:  “As I look back over the five published books,” she says, “I realize that it’s kind of a litany of bad fathers.  That’s where evil seems to flourish, in places where people didn’t get good fathering.”  (Quoted in TIME July 25, 2005)

Outside the literary genre called fiction, if there is truth to what Rowling says, then many and maybe most of the instigators and participants of the post game looting, destruction and defiance are people whose experience with their fathers was disruptive, obstructive, regrettable. It would be an interesting sociological study when these lunatics are corralled and processed for justice, to learn from them whether their fathers were absent from their lives, whether their fathers lacked respect for authority and law, whether their fathers beat and disrespected them, or whether these were children who were in foster homes during their childhood.

I don’t know what might be done with that study outcome but I do know that with Paul Bayne, his four children, Kent, Baden, Bethany and Josiah will have a father who respects their personhood, encourages the development of their potential, teaches them healthy values and morality because he himself is a man committed to ethics and moral principals that are a basis for a strong life, and family and community. What Paul needs is opportunity to instill such ideals into his children’s lives – opportunity that exceeds a specific number of hours each week under outside supervision. The fact that his value system derives from a commitment to the God of his Christian faith should not be a deterrent to the Ministry of Children and Family Development investing confidence in his capacity to parent.

In any other child welfare case involving a Hindu, or Muslim, or Buddhist, or aboriginal father with profound religious devotion, to assess the parent’s capacity to parent and subsequently subject the father to further psychiatric investigation because of that spiritual fixation, would be perceived as highly prejudicial, invasive and irrelevant and would likely not occur. Yet, wait to see whether Paul’s religious obligations are treated differently because they are devoutly, traditionalist Christian in derivation. It could happen. You will know in July.

The dance of shame by this Ministry of Children has gone on long enough with far too many steps. They have dragged this family around now for almost four years. It is disgraceful. Paul’s and Zabeth’s capacity to parent is undeniably reliable and this will be apparent. It is time to give them the unfettered custody of their own children. Legally, morally and practically it is time. To treat the father’s faith by penalizing him with further counselling or investigation will be regarded as a most scandalous outrage. Why would anyone want to create a scenario whereby one of these children becomes the sort of lout who torches police cruisers for fun? Let these children have their father.

Although you must celebrate it during the Saturday visitation, HAPPY FATHER’S DAY, Paul.

  1. I am encouraging my children to really think about the impact their lives will have on the future of our country. I hope that they move into positions that have a profound influence on the future of our country. We need people that can change these laws. Any country that keeps children away from their parents without real reasons (which is lacking when their is no medical reason as in the Bayne's situation) needs a serious overhaul. We need to change our laws. These children should have a right to their parents. These parents should have a right to parent their children. What a grave wrong our country is allowing, and even encouraging. Historically, people will look back and shake their heads in disbelief. These children will grow up and they will be heard. Kari Simpson has it right in keeping the children's information to be able to help them file for restitution from the government later. If we can't change the laws, they will. However, if there is anything we can do to change the laws now, we should. I received a post on facebook that shows how war torn and oppressed countries rioted and then showed Vancouver, with its generous mayor who provided big screen tvs, looking the exact same. Whenever I think of the injustice and powerless situation the Baynes are in, I am reminded of oppressed countries where women and different religions have no rights. We should be ashamed of ourselves. How does this fit into our stand on human rights? While we're busy acting pious and telling other countries how horrible their behaviour is, it would be nice if they turned around and told us that we are the pot calling the kettle black.

  2. Why did the mayor and the premier set up such conditions? It was completely obvious that this was a recipe for trouble. But now we can focus on the riot and the "hooligans," instead of what's really wrong with this province.

    If the former head of the MCFD, who is also the current premier (Christy Clark), cared 1/1000th as much about families as she did about property that has been damaged, we wouldn't have gross injustices such as the Baynes as going through.

    The corporations such as The Bay etc., will be compensated for their property loss (and isn't it interesting that the focus of the riots is, for the most part, property damage, and not violence). They won't be treated the same way little old ladies are, who are routinely denied settlements by insurance companies.

    But where is the settlement and compensation for the children and families who have gone through hell because of MCFD? Where are all the indignant Vancouverites, when it comes to the brutalities suffered by the Baynes and others? These MCFD injustices have been made public, yet where is the outrage?

    Surely what the Bayne children alone have suffered is far more reprehensible, and in need of a remedy than what has happened to a corporation, a corporation that - by the way - has legion of lawyers to fight battles with an insurance company.

    For anyone who still thinks foster care is a picnic, here's another testimonial:

    MCFD & THE GOV'T OF CANADA ARE AN ILLUSION THEY ARE The 'Predators'. Along with Canada’s kangaroo courts of lies, judges, lawyers, ALL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES. There are thousands of websites, testimonies, literature, documents Canada/worldwide that SCREAMS THE TRUTH.

    ‘JUDGES’, ‘LAWYERS’, ‘DIRECTORS’, ‘SOCIAL WORKERS,’ GOV'T AGENCIES DESTROY FAMILIES & CHILDREN. ALL FOR MONEY/POWER/OCCULT/SATAN "THEIR DADDY"

    Residential Schools are STILL RUN in THIS COUNTRY/PROVINCE they've just changed their name to MINISTRY OF CHILDREN & FAMILY DEVELOPMENT!

    Let’s take a look at SATANIC CANADA in action:

    The following experiments and the sheer brutality of the harm regularly inflicted on children in the schools attest to the institutional view of aboriginals as "expendable" and "diseased" beings. Scores of survivors of 10 different residential schools in BC and Ontario have described under oath the following tortures inflicted on them and other children as young as five years old between the years 1922 and 1996:

    • tightening fish twine and wire around boys' penises;
    • sticking needles into their hands, cheeks, tongues, ears and penises;
    • holding them over open graves and threatening to bury them alive;
    • forcing them to eat maggot-filled and regurgitated food;
    • telling them their parents were dead and that they were about to be killed;
    • stripping them naked in front of the assembled school and verbally and sexually degrading them;
    • forcing them to stand upright for more than 12 hours at a time until they collapsed;
    • immersing them in ice water;
    • forcing them to sleep outside in winter;
    • ripping the hair from their heads;
    • repeatedly smashing their heads against concrete or wooden surfaces;
    • daily beating without warning, using whips, sticks, horse harnesses, studded metal straps, pool cues and iron pipes;
    • extracting gold teeth from their mouths without painkillers;
    • confining them in unventilated closets without food or water for days;
    • regularly applying electric shocks to their heads, genitals and limbs.
    Perhaps the clearest summary of the nature and purpose of such sadism are the words of Bill Seward of Nanaimo, a survivor of the Kuper Island school:
    The church people were worshipping the devil, not us. They wanted the gold, the coal, the land we occupied. So they terrorized us into giving it to them. How does a man who was raped every day when he was seven make anything out of his life? The residential schools were set up to destroy our lives, and they succeeded. The whites were terrorists, pure and simple. (Testimony of Bill Seward to Kevin Annett and IHRAAM observers, Duncan, BC, August 13, 1998)

  4. The link to the story of the lady who went through 15 foster homes is indeed scary. Her survival, her happy ending and the fact she is a volunteer is heartwarming to hear.

    My kids were in 5 separate placements in just one year. I am thankful assistance from other disaster that I knew would be waiting for my parents was helpful in averting a potential children had I not fought these MCFD bastards and useless judiciary tooth and nail.

    It is people like the former abused foster child turned volunteer that can make a huge difference to compensate for a broken government system. Similar volunteers made the difference for me. I am returning the favour by volunteering to help other parents in similar situations.

    MCFD can easily force Paul into further counselling as a corrective measure if the PCA psychologist diagnoses that he is 'too religious.' That's what I'm reading in today's block. That is like being 'diagnosed' being gay and the expert then orders counselling to fix it.

    I would like to hear if visitation occured on father's day.

  5. The sense I get from the riot was, while people on camera were saying how atrocious the behaviour of their fellow citizens was, and they outnumbered the malcontents, they clearly took clearly no action to stop the morons. This inaction was taken by the morons as either condoning their actions or a discovery that they would be able to act with impunity.

    The onlookers wanted to remain there and be part of this history. This volume of people helped provide cover for the bad seeds in the crowd. This is a clear case of when good people who do nothing, their inaction permits the triumph of evil.

    This is the same thing with MCFD, however the deck is stacked against anyone who has thoughts of correcting the system. It is indeed become a monumental corrective exercise to fix this problem.

  6. The other half of the story is that while the attendance of the public at the riot was double that of 1994 100,000 vs. 50,000, there were fewer police handling it.

    So, while police receive accolades for doing what they can, they clearly responded in a reactive manner rather than preventative.

    Why? Perhaps, they get to milk the situation later to underscore how important their job is and can get more funding later when they point to the riot and say "do you want another expensive riot if you choose not to use our expensive overtime services?"

    My theory is that this is similar to the way MCFD responds when their budget is threatened. They identify a nightmare child protection situation, they do nothing, things blow up, then they milk the resulting publicity and spin the story as an example how important their job is and use the case as an example of what happens when their budget is cut.

    We already have 2,600 social workers each with caseloads of "25 to 30" individuals. There are 9,000 or so foster care residents and a further 6,000 or so in relative care who are under MCFD's watchful eye. (I can see clearly the per-worker caseload numbers don't add up.)

    It is up to us as observers to communicate what we see and do what we can to stop the problem.

    And by the way, happy belated Father's day.

  7. Children are a gift from God~we must treasure them as God intended.

    We don’t create life—God does. While we may participate as a mother or a father in bringing a child into the world, that child is a gift from our Creator. It is a most valuable gift to be loved and cherished and protected.

    Human life is sacred and should be treated with respect from its beginning to its end. God will hold all accountable who damage children in any way.
    To get an idea of the burden weighing on Families, Bayne is a prime example what the system have become. Just consider the heartbreaking number of deaths children disaster around the world right now all for; “the best interest of the child”
    It is our job the people to help those who are struggling to survive reform and rebuilt after their lost of their loved one. This need to stop!

  8. The Big Plan
    By forcing both parents to work to stay ahead, we are forced to "farm" out our kids, and we lose the proper control we were meant to have by God, and we find that government and other forces now become the parents. This is the plan... to destroy family, destroy children's potential and thereby, eventually, destroy society. History is proof of this system and EVERY nation so manipulated, has fallen. Canada will be no different if we abandon our kids and more so, the true God. Satan is a genius at destroying, and that is his goal. In every aspect of society, you can see his hands at work to pervert, corrupt and weaken the human potential, from health, to education, to government. It all has one purpose and we allow this to happen.
    Canada, and other nations, must wake up to this agenda, and act to counter it. It is a minority of deceived people behind this corruption. God's truth and word, along with His power in our lives can make significant changes... but we have to first believe God, and then ACT on what He tells us, and work together toward the right and true goals so our kids will inherit a better world, and more importantly, eternal life.
    If Canada heeded God's warning, our nation could once again become strong and be a light to other nations, but if we continue to neglect His warning, we will suffer a very severe punishment, and our children will be slaves in foreign nations...
    God is watching!
