Gordon Campbell Steps Down

A surprise to most of us today may mean a change of other key Ministry roles within months.

  1. Campbell stepping down is no surprise at all. He had his time and had claimed the glory of hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics. Even before the anti HST recall campaign, he is facing pressure within the party to give someone else a chance. Institution of the HST angered many British Columbians. To the dismay and surprise of the BC Liberals, the calculating introduction of the tax shortly after winning the last election has backfired. His expensive TV speech last week obviously did not fare well. The party is a now sinking boat.

To those who expect reform in MCFD after Campbell is gone, don't be so happy. Carole James is a weak leader, a perfect candidate for bureaucrats and special interests to toy around and manipulate. After all, don't forget who instituted CFCSA and the corruption of the Glen Clark administration in the NDP era. The ghosts of the Clark gang are still behind the NDP curtain.

There is room for a third choice in the next provincial election. Problems created by state-sponsored child removal cannot be resolved without revoking the authority to remove children from their families, hence must go political. Don't hold your breath on the RYC or the Ombudsman. They are have no real power and are nothing more than a mere declaration of insincere effort of reform. What a joke when the RYC was created to protect children from the protector of children called MCFD.

Let's make killing CFCSA the next election issue. You folks have 2 years to work on this.

  2. The only party who should be philosophically opposed to MCFD and child protection as it stands as a whole is the Libertarian party. Check with your local candidate. If they aren't strongly opposed to this kind of government power, they aren't true Libertarians.

Doug Christie, the lawyer for the Baynes, is a Libertarian. No coincidence there.

  3. It's odd no one is waiting in the wings from the Liberal party to replace Campbell. It all seems premature, and as if he resigned voluntarily so he would not be forced.

The CBC site has a related story where Campbell is adamant he was not going to retire, and that was just in September.

Maybe that 15% tax cut Campbell announced, his successor will take it out of MCFD's budget.
