NEWBORN TAKEN FROM MOTHER & DIES WITHIN 4 WEEKS

Manitoba Child and Family Services seized Matias de Antonia at birth, and on March 27th, he died while in foster. The baby’s mother Maria Herriera’s family roots are in Colombia and their first language is Spanish. She has been in Canada for six years and she is a permanent resident of Canada. She had no record of neglect during her pregnancy. She has no record of mental illness. CFS were concerned about her ability to care for the child. The boy’s uncle, Carlos Burgos said that the family disagreed with the CFS’s action and says, “I’m not against CFS at all. CFS is there it help people, it’s just some people they don’t know how to do their jobs properly. They were very rough with my family. They didn’t give us the opportunity to show we could raise Matias. They took the baby away from our sister, from us.”

This data and interview details are part of a Global network article authored by By Eric Szeto, Reporter/Anchor.

Every province has its stories that raise concern over deaths of children while in government initiated and sponsored foster care. Concern must result in better management. This cannot be allowed to continue. Legislators, government Ministers, Judges, politicians from all parties have to take notice of this.

AYN'S APPREHENSION WAS UNREASONABLE - WILL THE MINISTER LISTEN?

In June 2011, MCFD’s decision to apprehend Ayn was the result of under-investigation. I believe it was over-reaction rather than over-investigation. Sending out the child protection team was standard procedure following an RCMP involvement in a child-search. However, when social workers arrive unannounced with document in hand, requesting a parent’s signature to a voluntary surrender of a child, without engaging in a sincere discussion of the challenges of parenting an autistic child, and in this specific case, the reasonable explanation for the child’s wandering from home, and possibly as well, asking how the Ministry could actually facilitate Derek’s job of caring for three children, two of whom are autistic, then the MCFD action was flagrantly unreasonable, illogical, unfounded, groundless, senseless and irrational.

This is Sunday March 3, 2013 and B.C.’s Liberal Premier Christy Clark will either decide or be told what the near future holds for her as the party leader and provincial premier. Today at 4PM an emergency meeting of her Cabinet may offer her three options: 1) Clark steps down; 2) Clark stays but the cabinet distance themselves from her; 3) Cabinet manages all issues from now on.

MEDIA HAVE HELPED IN THE PAST AND MAY AGAIN

Since we have learned that Ayn will be coming home to her family, the media is asking for opportunity to consult with Derek Hoare. None of us know full details of the agreement that has been reached with the Ministry of Children and Family Development. When the return is imminent and when Derek is ready, I am sure that he will make himself available to release information. There are some comments from Derek on Ayn's Facebook Page which is open to anyone. Let me remind all of you of the good coverage that some news journalists provided to Derek in the early weeks of this now 18 month ordeal.

AYN’S STORY WENT GLOBAL / 573

In a quality news story, Global TV with Ted Chernecki aired Ayn Van Dyk’s plaintiff story and her father Derek Hoare had opportunity to express reoccurring criticisms about the practice of the Ministry of Children. This is Ayn’s story, Ayn pronounced Eyen. Ayn is Derek’s nine year old daughter who has been removed by the Ministry of Children. (Sound quality is poor for the first few seconds)
